idle issues

Post by boostedsol »

hey guys, i have a couple of issues going on with my car. Alittle background first, laskey built d16 turbo, 680 precision injectors with inline resistors, Ectuned by Xenocron. Lc1 wideband running closed cloop. Vaccuum at idel is around 16-20 inhg. fuel pressure set to 40psi. ok no the problems; Every so often my idle with go crazy lean, not talking like 17:1 but more like 19:1-20:1. normal idle i have noticed is at 15:1-16.8:1. What do you think the issue could be here? Also again every so often, when i drop revs to say come to a stop and a red light or throwing the car into neutral from anything above 2000 rpm my rpms with either drop doen to below 500 or the car will just shut off. I have no idea what is going on here either. any help would be greatly appreciated, so here is a thank you in advance.

I will tell you my experiences one day. i got one customer's d16Y8 built engine with GT2871R turbocharger and precision 680 or 780 injectors (i don't remember anymore). The car was then tuned with Hondata S300 system as in that time i couldn't get into eCtune tuner list (Calvin didn't like me for some reason :-) ). When i start to tune it i discover there was plenty of fuel in narrow throttle area and lack of fuel in full throttle area. I had very hard time to get the car runing well and then i just lost my nerves, pull out injectors and resistors and install RC750 12ohms ones and from that time tuning was very easy and i finished the car in less time than just messing with precision injectors to get the car idle correctly. Some people have good experience with precision but I hate precision (and DSM) injectors. and one more thing: never in my life i was left the customer driving away from me with car which doesn't drive well or it dies on a stop light. Never, no matter who's fault this is. at the end everybody has a way to get on honda forums and write to everyone: \"hey, this tunner didn't tune my car well\" and they can easily destroy your business or turn people to other tuners no matter if this is your fault or customer's one... this is the way i am doing business and i know, it can be time consuming sometimes, but it can give me priority in tuning industry against other tuners

no way am i putting down Xenocron, car ran great when it left the shop, this problem started to arise about 2 or 3 months ago, i was tuned in april. Chris did a great job and all of my expectations were either met or exceded, great guy to work with. It just now it gets annoying having to restart the car at every stop light when this happens. Other than these issues the car runs great, couldnt ask for me. Also it seems to happen more so when the engine is at opperating temp.

i didn't said put somebody down and second: you wrote like he tuned your car yesterday. ok nevermind, tell me do you experience any water missing in the radiator? did you tried to raise idle with idle adjusting screw on the top of the throttle body? stock or aftermarket fuel pump?

my mistake on that, stuck at work, have to try to rifle these things off as fast as possible. my bad. the idle screw on the top really doesnt do to much no matter which way i turn it. No water missing from the radiator, and its a Walbro 255hp, B&M FPR. only thing i can really think of is maybe, maybe the FITV which is bypassed, other than that i have no idea.

why not talk to xenocron and explain the problem to him? i'm sure he'll be more than happy to help you out.

you know i could, and i will, but i figured why not get a bunch of different opinions on what the problem may be, ya know.

i have 750cc injectors and the last time that happened to me i had to finetune fuel corrections based on iat and ign. timing corrections as well...i discovered that at prolonged idle, iat went up to as high as 75 deg c, which caused a reduction in fuel, so i had to add some....
New to eCtune, and still a lot to learn.....

if the regulator is the B&M that attaches to the stock regulator I would suspect that may be part of your problem.. Those regulators don't hold up very well.

I think there should be a list of recommendations like these stickied so people don't complete a tune to realize later they need to make a minor change and retune. I went back with an oem regulator and removed its vacuum source also, worked well.

ok so i was driving home from work yesterday, stopped by the store to get some oil and a filter. Get back in the car start it up and it acts up on me, you guys mentioned something about the FPR, so i figured i would check the Fuel pressure with it idleing at 19:1, and i was only at 32psi. So i start to drive, and every time i get out of the gas the car would shut off, jsut would not come to an idle. Drove for about 10 mins to get home, and the issue cleared up by time i pulled in the driveway. Well I said lets go for a ride see what happens, and no problems the rest of the time. If it is the regulator, wouldnt it crap out on me and never clear itself up? or is there somthing else going on. I plan on taking my computer with me and logging everywhere i go till i get the problem recorded.

Usually everyone over looks the fuel filter. When was the last time you changed it? or maybe your IACV needs cleaning

fuel filter was replaced 4000 miles ago, when i put the new engine in. i could always put a new one in jsut to make sure. I was also told that it would be ok to run a stock pressure regulator with out any problems, is this ok?
