Yea theres definatly somthing about either the short insulator or the fact that its non projected that seriously affects HP output.. You wouldn't believe how many \"TUNERS\" I've told this too and they look at me like I'm full of crap .. Mabey thats why my cars around this area make more POWAaaa than the competition..

Any progress on the plug depths yet?

Took some measurements between a BKR7E and a R5671A-8. On the BKRE7, the insulator is projected past the base end of the plug/shell, by approx. .065\". On the R5671A-8, the insulator is recessed approx. .035\" from the base end of the plug/shell. Approx lengths from tip to tip: BKR7E = 2.975\" R5671A-8 = 2.875\" I think some of the power being gained is dependant too on ignition systems. With the higher boost levels ~ higher cylinder pressures and temps, the easier it is to blow out the spark. Recessing the tip; i.e. shortening the distance the spark/energy has to travel, increases the energy transfer potential. .100\" may not seem like a lot, but think about when you are at those cylinder pressures/boost levels and you drop the plug gap from .035\" to .025\". I have noticed when tuning the big power differences aren't as noticable when the cylinder pressures are not as high. I have also noticed, when running a stronger ignition system, the power gains aren't as noticable as well.

i've alway wanted to know what plugs i should run and if it makes much difference...i was running some Denso Iridium IK24 Spark Plugs ... however...ive heard iridiums shouldn't be used do to the fact that yes it has the highest heat tolerances...but it doesnt disepate heat as well. what should i go with ? definately non-resistor otherwise K-Poop will go nucking futs on me.

BKR8E if your running N/A K series or BKR9 or 10E if your running Boost or nitrous.. NGK.. sorry

that 1 or 2 steps colder than stock? also is that based on K24a1 stock plug range or k20a2? also what are the general guidelines for gapping new plugs to fit your tune?

K series run 7 heatrange plugs stock.. so the 8s are one step colder and the 9s are 2 steps colder. As far as gapping, use stock plug gap until you HAVE to gap them smaller.. The BKRs come pre gapped.. And with K series COP setup you rarely have to gap them smaller unless ur making over 600+ HP. They are basically the V-Power complements to the stock iridiums. They seem to work very well in the Ks and tranfer the heat to the head really well compared to the IRs. I've put a set of BKR 9s in a stock K20 with 150shot of nitrous that I tuned.. They run great, burn clean, with no missifires and no detonation.

there are issues with K-Poo and non-resister spark plugs...are the NGK BKR 9s resistor or no?

yup they are resistor type...

finally.. and sorry for the delay. been covered up with work.. here are the measurements i gathered on the 8 heat range projected and non projected spark plugs. hope this helps.. brandon

so..what exactly what does that mean...

sorry your gonna hate me.. I was trying to figure out how far it is form the tip of the insulator to where the insulator meets the base, cause that length is what determines the heat dissipation..

Gotcha.. Ill do that when i get back from the track tonight..

im not trying to get off the subject just passing on some info from thursday night test n tune.i made sevral runs all motor in my 90 prelude trying to get consistant runs useing projected plugs with a heat range 6.i then changed to the 4554 straight out of the box and their was an improvement.the times i had with the old plugs were 9.11/9.17 and with the new plugs i went 8.82/8.96.the first 3 runs with nitrous were clean runs with no break up.the last 2 had some break up possablly a little too lean and not mutch cool down time.
