The 'other' twin turbo method...
I am getting ready to make some adaptive and mounts to twin turbo a d16. The method I would like to try is as follows: Exhaust -> small turbo hot inlet Small turbo hot outlet -> downpipe small turbo cold outlet -> large turbo hot inlet Large turbo hot outlet -> large turbo cold inlet Large turbo cold outlet -> FMIC Now... I know it will work; but I want to discuss the logistics of the boost/exhaust bottlenecks and pro's/con's.

your basically not gonna get any gains from the larger turbo, cold boost pressure won't be enough to drive the bigger turbo.. basically it'll only drive the larger turbo at whatever the smaller turbo will flow. So you might as well just run the smaller turbo. U'd be better off doing a compound turbo setup.

Turbos run on thermal energy. 80% of their mechanism is based on thermal energy, only 20% is based on mechanical air flow. Well, that's what i've been told, don't know if those are exact numbers.

I know thermal expansion plays a key role in increases in cfm, but I am just curious if it would work... If all else fails I will just do hot to hot like it should be with te small turbo passing exhaust to the large turbo, and the large turbo pushIng boost into the small turbo...

If i understand this last turbo goes turbine and compressor to same pipe. I think it wont spin too much because there is not pressure difference etc. We have few twinturbo or twincharge cars here in Finland. This car is pretty interesting it has engine in front but two turbos at back. I saw it few years ago and i think smaller turbo boost through bigger turbo and between them was IC. Anyway here is one vid of that car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFZkkjkkOt4 This is AE86 twincharged, rotrex and holset (i think uset GTK550 sometime too) It runs low 11 (street car) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/ ... rex002.jpg vid of corolla http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WLj-gv5 ... re=relatedLarge turbo hot outlet -> large turbo cold inlet Large turbo cold outlet -> FMIC
