OBD2 Ignition Timing

I just replaced the distributor on my 97 acura 2.2 CL. The car is OBD2 so the distributor does not turn to advance/retard the base ignition timing. As far as I know the ecu sets the base timing itself for OBD2 cars. When I checked the pulley with a timing light I found that it was around 8 or 9 degrees BTDC when it should be at 15 or 16 degrees. Since I am now running an OBD1 ecu I'm unsure how to set the base timing. Is there an easy way to do this in eCtune or do I just need to keep this in mind when tuning the ignition maps?

TO my believe obd2 doesn't set it own base timing. All obd2 i saw you can adjust the dizzy to set your base timing. In eCtune you can lock your ignition to adj with a timing light or you can change the 16deg base timing to something else and that will reflect on your igntion maps

I had a Euro accord R and that dizzy was also not adjustable. When checking the timing I found out it did not had to be changed, it was dead on 0 degrees when I set the ign timing check tool in eCtune at 0 degrees. This car did not had a extra marker, just the TDC marker so I had to set the timing tool to 0 degrees.

You put base timing to 0 right so you maps refelect everything correctly? and then add 16 to the map to get 16 deg at idle?

I did an 01 Accord with an F23. It did not have an adjustable Distributor either. I just changed my base maps until I got the timing set. Basically I only hade to offset the tables by 3 or 4 degrees to set my base.

Fixed dizzy F22 and H22s usually idle about 14 deg.. I ususally just tune with that in consideration and don't mess with the base timing adjustment. Or you can just add +2 to everything..

what is better: Set base timing to 14 in eCtune and add 2 to your entire map. That way you have 16 again.

I checked the timing with the ign tool. I left the base timing to 16* and just checked with 0* to see if 0* in the software was 0* on the engine. So basicaly this engine is idling at 16* now. But I still have an crack sensor error when I rev the engine. Anyone any idea?

if the signal from your crank sensor and the signal from the dizzy don't line up properly it'll throw a crank sensor code. I had this issue on a H22 that was running a crank sensor on the crank, and had a movable dizzy.. when locked at 16.5 the dizzy should be at about 14.5 deg, then just add 2 to everything in the map and you'll be at your 16 base timing. Its kinda funcky but it works.

yea, OBD2 h22's are a very different breed from the older brother. adjustable cam gears are just about pointless on OBDII h22 setups. You cant adjust the exhaust gear without the ecu giving a CYP code. If you had an OBD1 distributor on there then obviously you bypassed the CKP sensor on the oil pump.

don't add timing to the maps yet. Set the base timing in eCtune from 16. to 14 then add the maps + 2
