Some questions about computer requirements

Post by 8man »

My laptop: 600mhz P3 384mb RAM 800x600 max. resolution Is this software going to run correctly? I noticed a TTL/USB cable listed as a requirement. Can I not use my TTL/DB9 serial cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to purchase something that I cannot use.

If you can get XP and .net 3.5 installed; then you might be able to... it will run slow with the 2D tables shown.. the res is a bit low so you would need to disable one or 2 toolbars in the main window; but it should be doable. Logging speed might be a tad low... I have successfully ran XP on a Pentium 60Mhz..... It was slow as dog poo; but I could surf the net.... and it worked ;) Let me venture a guess: your thinking of getting a LT-C500 tablet or something similar?

But res is not so good... due to the speed of the laptop or the serial cable?

Calvin; I am getting a tablet PC with a max 800X600 res; so I would be willing to test to see if anything needs special scaling for a low-res setup; The Fujitsu LT-C500 is a PIII 500, and it only weighs about 1-2 Lbs... 8.4\" screen... nice unit and cheap (~160us shipped) so it would be a good viable option for making simple adjustments at the track, but I wouldn't hold it out for datalogging well just yet.... need to try it when I get it; and vista is picky about what res you are using... Second: I think the only things it would really need is the ability to scale the programs buttons/window specific graphics down by 1/2 or temporatily hide them... I am not too sure how hard it would be to code something like this... and also disable alot of the unnecessary interface widgets (smoothing, extra icons/toolbars, 2D graphs, etc.) Maybe make a \"launch in low-res mode\", \"File-> LowRes Mode\" or something to the liking.... mainly just enough to open the settings/parameters/tables [which would obviously take up the entire parent window... just scale down the important stuff. You could leave the datalogging graphs/data windows the same as they will be less of a priority for this type of application unless datalogging speed isn't too bad. What'd ya say?

Awesome; definately better than a no, but I will get the tablet first and see how eCtune runs on it. If all else it will be my mobile logger for the others (CROME, FreeLog, etc).... I have been planning getting one for a while now... they are just too good of a price.

well; the ostrich requires USB; I believe a setial->TTL cable will work for logging with no issues. So as long as you have both your good to go ;)

I'll be honest with you man, I have ran ectune on a tablet pc and a slower 1gig labtop. On the toshiba tablet pc it sucked, bad. It takes for ever when you select multiple values and its super slow logging. Like slow enough you better just watch the wideband and have the driver call out rpm ranges and let off points. On the 1ghz labtop, its a whole lot better than the tablet but the usb is only 1.0 so logging seems to be slower than faster labtops with usb 2.0. My old tuner runs his ectune pro on a 3.2gig p4 I believe. His logging is super super fast, like so fast your eyes can't keep up. I bought a 2.0gig core duo 2gig ram dell just for tuning my personal shop car but its currently getting some fab work done and wont know how fast the logging for another couple days or so. I can't wait.

it should be so slow i tested on various laptops... Datalogging should remain the same... 15-20ms with HULOG advance settings to latency 1
