random misfires/rev limiters

i dont have the slightest clue as to why this is happening, but it is getting more frequent. It can happen at every throttle angle other than idle. I hit a rev limiter every now and then during acceleration and WOT. Today it happened at 2k, 3k and 4k RPM then on the way home it did its limiter at 5000 rpm at WOT. i cant have this happening with 12.2:1 compression on pump gas.... i dont have any lean protections, overheat protections, etc engaged, however, i do have the 2 step always on and set by speed under 5mph. I also have a datalogging issue. It freezes after a few minutes of use and i have to disconnect and reconnect to get it to work. Then sometimes it will click my main relay on and off for a consecutive number and throw a check engine light on and off. These problems/concerns are just not what i was looking forward to.....

check for VSS loss in logs; or spikes/dips.... this may be a cause. Also, antilag is always active, so be careful what TPS you have it configured for... it can sneak up on you, but the VSS can definately hamper a 2-step; what is the 2-step limiter set to? What RPM? If below the errors you have seen, how many rpm below?

ok well i disabled the 2 step and everything is back to normal. I have never had VSS issues so i find it hard to believe that there is a underlying problem with my VSS, ECU...etc. I'm gonna try later tonight to see if it does it with the TPS input instead of memory/speed based.

well i thought it was back to normal. even with 2 step disabled i still get these random limiters. can someone please look over my calibration to make sure i have everything setup correctly? it would be greatly appreciated.

record a log file of the condition

datalogging wont run long enough (it freezes) for me to wait for the event to occur. I have already tried.

no. It works fine for the first minute or so and logs pretty fast. Then it just stops logging data. i'm supposed to be going to an event with payouts on the 2nd of august and there is no point in me going with a variable like this that could cut power at anytime going down the strip. i dont know if its associated with this problem or not, but i was sitting in the driveway after a drive and the engine idled up to cold start idle for about 5 seconds and then went back to a normal idle. If i sit in the driveway with the ignition on and datalogging connected, it will freeze. If i disconnect and try to reconnect multiple times, my main relay clicks over and over and the check engine light flashes over and over faintly.

I have seen this behaviour with (one of) the latest official Nokia DKU-5 cables. When cable is disconnected from laptop but IS connected to the ECU, the ECU is resetting itself from time to time. Making the relais click and the MIL flash so fast it almost isn't visable. Only with dim light, like sunset, night or sun rise. But this behaviour was gone when the laptop was connected. But then still... the logger should not freeze. It sounds like a driver/com settings issue. Oh BTW.... with regard to the topic title.... I bet you have issues with the VSS

everything works tho. I dont get how i can randomly get VSS problems just because i switch to eCtune even with all the 3 step settings disabled. It did it to me this morning at 2k rpm in first gear. i'll check out the com ports. I am using a Hulog.

well i got it to log for a whole 4 minutes then it froze, however, i cannot get it to log any graphs. Nothing happens on my end. Its just a blank screen although i had it setup to log 5 sensors which don't shop up on the left panel of the graph screen. The com port is configured correctly as well. the VSS is reading correctly via sensor data. The car runs differently with the laptop connected (better). I couldnt get it to do the random crap with it connected.

I have the same issue as he does and nothing pops up for me either. Just logs and stops. Every once in a while I will get an overflow error but I have been backing down the first column -10mbar to the point where I am at -70mbar and I am still getting the occasional overflow message. I also still get the trace (when it logs long enough) to jump to the last column, which makes no sense to me. So I don't know what else to do but to sit and wait for the next update. I would like to get this resolved before then, my new injectors are coming in this week.

ok, i guess you can only view the graphs through uploading the log file and not in real time... after reviewing the log my VSS is working as it should. what i found that was REALLY weird is that after 4 minutes, the datalog froze and stopped showing data while logging in real time. Well, i uploaded the log file and it showed the data even after it had frozen. 6 minutes of data instead of the 4. So it logged 2 minutes of data which wasnt being shown on the screen in real time.

what laptop are you using? specs? when was the last time you defrag your hard drive? could be some laptop settings while datalogging? hybernation, power saving feature, background applications running like anti-virus w/c can interfere. i usually turn off all these features/apps when tuning. also try to optimize your Virtual Memory. it's usually 1.5 x the physical RAM + 12Mb. too large value can fragment your disk easily which causes programs/apps to run abnormally, in turn can mess-up your calibration/s. maybe a clean OS install with just eCtune program installed can help. helps free up hardware resources specially when datalogging. so far am not experiencing such issues since i started using eCtune just mid last month except the Innovate serial logging issue ...but still manageable.
