I'm not sure if this is only happening to me but when my laptop is connected to the car running ectune, when the software hangs, as it does sometimes, windows task manager doesn't seem to load so i can't shut down ectune and i have to press the power button to shut down the laptop and restart...

The software has to be hanging for a reason; I believe the best way to start on this is record your steps, one at a time (from loading ectune to the error) and try to figure out where the error is coming from; alot of the time it could be some sort of malware or program causing a memory leak somewhere and messing up the works.

yeah, if there is an innovate error, sometimes the error dialogue is not on top, or you click away from it, and eCtune won't do much until you go back to it and click \"ok\"

in my case it usually happens when i change something in the 2D tables during live update, sometimes i get an error about not live updating then it hangs, nothing i do can unhang it unless i turn off the laptop, sometimes during datalogging, after a minute or two of driving, when i look at the laptop, its hanged already, although it doesn't regularly happens, just once in a while, but it gets difficult to reload ectune once it happens, sometimes i have to do a force update.... could it be that my antivirus has something to do with it, its AVG v8. its one of the softwares running in the background....

I am running AVG 8, no issues... XP tablet edition what are the specs on your laptop? How much memory does your system have? I would suggest making all changes in the table portion of the window, only using the 2d graph for locating where in the table your needing to tune; selecting a group of items in the 2d view instead of the table can tax the system resources real quick; I noticed this when going from a newer celeron, to the older centrino 1.5Ghz processor. These symptoms really point towards some sort of memory conflict/leak or possibly a pagefile error.... I don't really know... I can tell you on a few test versions I got hangs here and there, but I was always able to follow a trace of steps to reproduce such a fault.... When it's left alone, and it just happens during a logging session; I would suspect the OS or machine. If it means anything else as well; I always run my machines with a min of 2Gb of ram, and also turn virtual memory off... completely off. I get better system response times, and more fluid system operation... Just my opinion.

i have 4 gig of ram and a 7200 processor with an invidia 7600gt card running windows xp.. i was thinking about it being machine related also, but none of my other software ever hangs like that, and if it does i can always shut it down from the task manager..

if live update doesn't update it's between laptop and ostrich. either driver or ostrich acts out due to emi. try socket booster

hub here, no problems since cover closed all the way and ground wire added when not bolted to chassis.
