I have an Ostrich 1 which is working perfectly with eCtune. I want to change the batteries of the Ostrich since it is 4 years old. Shelf life of alkaline batteries is 5 years only. The question is, would anything happen to the eCtune registration on the Ostrich 1 when the batteries are pulled out?

you will possibly need to resubmit for a license... and you will get a new serial on it.

Do I have to reset the ostrich before changing the battery, then register again? or Can I just change the battery and register again? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just change the battery and register again. It will clear itself if it relies on the battery for retention.

In my ostrich v2 i've experienced a problem of battery draining and it would lost rom but keeping the serial number. Even when I was diagnosting what was the problem with it, I removed and replaced the battery several times and never lost the serial number. I can't assure that with v1 the behave will be the same but must likely it will. The serial may be stored together with the firmware and not in the memory used for emulation.

Just changed the batteries in my archaic ostrich V1 and serial held - had a solid cel afterwards so it does require rom upload.

Thanks for the tips. I finally changed the batteries. The serial/registration was not affected.
