rev limiter problem

so the car runs perfectly fine everywhere, unless i hit rev limiter. ive got ign and fuel cut as rev limiter. and sometimes it seems like they dont engage. when it works it works great, will sit and bounce off limiter till i shift into third. but most of the time it will hit a stockish sounding limiter, bounce once maybe twice then lean protection will set. my limiter is set to 8200, ive seen on a log it made it to 8259, where duty cycle drops to 0. but neither fuel nor ign cut is set. has anyone else had this issue?

If your going that high on rpm, your probably seeing valve float unless the springs/cam are designed for that much rpm.... My .02c

your probably having ignition breakup. try gapping your plugs down to somthing stupid like .016 and see if it clears up.

really? that low? i figured .026 was enough, but i do have a fresh set of plugs here so might as well try

Yeah... with the low compression of vitaras, you probably don't have enough timing in ti so its breaking up. I run gaps that small pretty often on hondas with higher boost levels. If that clears up your issues, then you may just be too conservative with your tune, or need a stronger ignition setup. worth a shot

ok, so i do need to add some more timing, but did what you said, gapped em to 21 or so and still does it, just as bad. ive enclosed a pic of one of the plugs. its super blurry but you can see where the timing mark is. please any ideas would be fantastic

no.. not .021.. .016 .. Theres a big difference. And make sure when you gap it, you gap it good. You'll have to use a feeler gauge to gap that small, and make sure its flat between the ground strap and electrode and theres no play in it. I've seen many people gap plug to say .020 and they are really at like .028 cause they didn't hold the gapping medium straight lol. Post up your map and I'll take a look at it.

should be up there, last of the three files i uploaded after the logs. ok my gapper went down to 20 so i hit 21 and went with it. ill dig out my feelers after work tonight and try it in a couple days (supposed to rain next two days here)
