Possible Datalogging Issue

Not sure if it was a bug or what since I didn't have time to try and replicate the issue cause of the battery dying on my laptop but, I thought I would post anyways and see if someone else wants to try it out and see if it happens to them. Anyways, I was out for a couple hours yesterday and was datalogging most of the time, but not recording. After a little bit I hit the record button on the toolbar and everything was working fine. After about 10 minutes I noticed the battery dying and hit the stop record button and then noticed the map trace stopped. I then tuned off the datalogger, started it again and the map trace still didn't work I was going to close out the program and start everything over but that's where my battery life became critical and I had to shut down. Well that's it, just thought that I would post and see if anyone is getting out soon, could try it and see what happens as I won't be able to get back out for a few days due to rain. Thanks !

I have reproduced those steps several times and I have not had any issues. It may have been just your computer freaking out because of low voltage. Just try again when you get some time and then report back. Thanks

Supposed to get a break in the weather tomorrow so if it's good outside when I get home from work I will head out for a bit and see if it happens again. Think Adam might be right though, might have just been freaked cause of the low voltage of my laptop at the time. I just thought I would post it up and see if anyone was gonna go out tuning they could try it and report back if they had any issues.

most laptops disable USB/serial ports when the power gets critically low. This has hurt me many times in my field service position. I don't think it was an eCtune flaw just a battery conservation condition. Most people use an inverter when tuning as their laptops don't give them 'hours' of runtime, especially with processor intensive operations. I wouldn't recommend doing it just because it will hit you when you need it not to the most.

Well the rain, snow/ice storms finally have let up and it has dried out so I will be heading out later on this morning to do some more tuning. I will report back later on if I experience this problem again. Thanks !

OK so I just got back in and everything went well. Map trace did though stop on me again, though I think it's cause of a laptop issue. Sorry for the bad info.

it might be worth turning off power management features (turn off HDD, turn off monitor, etc)... this might be a thing to try.

I have a question that is somewhat related to the map tracer freezing problem. I have noticed that my tracer only works on the graph and not on the tables. Is this normal? I usually use the graph to tune a/f but I like to use the table to watch timing in real time.

it should work on the tables... same as graph

I played with this on my car a little more this morning, It seem to only highight the square that the engine is running in when I open the window. For instance if I switch from the graph to the table while I am at 2000 rm at 1200mbar it will stay there and not move, After that will open the graph and the chase will work on the graph, then I will rev to 3000rpm and close the graph to view that tables and it will stick on the 3000 rpm and not move no matter what I do with the car. I can open a data log and it will work correctly, I just like to view real time while I am trying to tune. Wierd? :?:
