start your car.. Turn ign lock on at 16 degrees.. Use a timing light to check if your car is on 16 deg on the crank. if not adjust distributor.

At some cars its difficult to check the timing. So with this tool you can set the timing fixed to a certain vallue. This way you can even check the timing with a cold engine. All the variable's that can adjust the timing at idle are disabled when you use the timing tool. Or when an engine does not have a 16 degrees marker on the flywheel/pulley, just set the timing tool at 0 degrees and check the timing with the 0 degrees marker. When you are done, close the timing tool and the timing will be normal again.

No it is simulating the short cut of the blue connector under your dash, what you normally do to check the timing. You have to rotate the ignition unit on your engine and check with a timing light and make adjustments if necessary.

not completely true.. Blue connector just disables idle ignition control. If you have 20 at idle it will show 20 on you timing light. A stock ecu always has 16 at the idle region.

P05/P06 maps that I've seen (pulled directly from respective ECU's) are sometimes odd numbers like 18*. But generally sohc vtec and b-series motors set it at 16*. The reason for this is to, via the EMS, 'lock' the idle ignition value to synch it almost perfectly. It should disable any ignition modifiers in the EMS (or so we are told). Find out what your crank marks are, then set the lock to the middle mark.

I have a question about ignition lock the idle need to be from 750-950 rpm before using it and ajust the timing? or eCtune completly lock the ignition os the rpm doesn't matter

Rpm doesn't matter.

One time I had my computer crash while I was locking the ignition, I rebooted and went to tune but the car had absolutely no power. The problem ended up being that the ignition was still locked. So the moral of the story is that yes rpm does not matter and make sure you unlock it when your done setting the timing. By the way Calvin, this feature is extremely helpful, thanks again
