Gaskleppie wrote:At some cars its difficult to check the timing. So with this tool you can set the timing fixed to a certain vallue. This way you can even check the timing with a cold engine. All the variable's that can adjust the timing at idle are disabled when you use the timing tool. Or when an engine does not have a 16 degrees marker on the flywheel/pulley, just set the timing tool at 0 degrees and check the timing with the 0 degrees marker.[/b] When you are done, close the timing tool and the timing will be normal again.
can you please elaborate more on that in red... I have h22a with aftermarket flywheel with no timing marks and i need a way to set timing . thanks

If you don't have any timing marks, you would need to do it youself. For this purpose you'll need dial indicator to check when piston 1 or 4 is on TDC.

Yep! Set the piston from cylinder 1 at its highest point and make your own mark at the crank/pulley/flywheel. Then use the timing tool at 0 degrees and check it with your own new made mark.

ok i would need to find highest point cyl 1 is which is TDC.. then i would need to make a mark on the crank pulley at the 12 o clock position and also make a mark on the timing cover right above it then set in program 0 degrees and place timing light on and line up ?

I quite often have to use the cam gears to sync ignitino cause alotta customers bring me setups with no timing covers.. Its probably not AS acurate, but if your tunning it on a dyno it gets you close enough to do the trick.. I'd say as long as your timing belt is tight and the heads not milled you should be within - + 4 deg or so.. So just start conservative timing wise and work your way up..
