Row vs. Column

Post by borat »

The terms \"row\" and \"column\" are switched on the interpolation buttons. \"Row\" should be for horizontal selections, and \"column\" should be for vertical. Currently it is the other way around. Edit: To clarify: the text and pictures on the interpolation icons are correct, but the wrong icon pops up if you select a single row or single column.

I think it's good. Listen you select a row... What do you interpolate? the select columns If you select a column what do you interpolate the rows you selected. Well let me hear other people what they think and i'll fix it.

Well, if you select just one column (Y axis), then the button that pops up has lines going from left to right (X axis). I think it makes more sense to have the button graphic match the selection, so if you select a column, then the interpolation button that pops up matches the axis you want to interpolate. That way when you select several columns and rows, you don't get confused as to which axis you are interpolating.

And that interpolation is done horizontally, across the rows. You can also select three columns because you want to interpolate them vertically, but to do that you have to click the button with horizontal lines, which seems counter-intuitive.

if you select 1 column now. It interpolate all the row values from Up to down if you select 3 columns It can interpolate the middle column from left to right Or it can interpolate the row values from up to down

I guess my problem is the terms \"Interpolate Columns\" and \"Interpolate Row\" are ambiguous. Selecting a single column shows the button with the tooltip \"Interpolate Row\" which is confusing since the data selected is in a column, not a row. I now understand that you mean \"interpolate along the rows\", but it's not clear from just the 2 words. Something like \"Interpolate X-axis\" for interpolating horizontally and \"Interpolate Y-axis\" for vertically would be more clear. It would also be consistent with the \"Interpolate XY\" button.
