Different ecu - different behavior

Post by civic4g »

Hi I've been using an p30-g01 on my ek4 but a few days ago i've changed it with an p30-g00 and have nottest that when i swith on the ignition (position II i think) the CEL doesn't come ON as quickly as when i was using the p30-g00. With the p30-g01 the CEL was instantly ON as the other lights (oil pressure, Brakes...) Have you guys ever seen this kind of issue? I just want to be sure that it's nothing wrong with this ecu. :? Best Regards Filipe Costa

I'm guessing there is only a tiny delay, I notice this when using SSt 512 chips compared with using the emulator

I never really noticed any delay in the check engine light. However, in other ways the ECU´s ARE in fact slightly different. Little differences in A/D converters and other components is something you need to be aware of, for example when using 3 bar MAP sensors and large injectors. Mostly this affects just idle, but I have even seen WOT affected. For that reason I ALWAYS confirm and, if necessary, fine tune on the actual ECU that will be driving the car. /Allan

Yeh like the JDM P30-901 and the P30-900 I noticed are slightly different on the boards. And the 901 uses a ST chip and 900 uses the OKI chip, like the other chips on the board.

i always recommend tuning on the ecu that will be used in the car. if a replacement has to be used in the future then double check for any fine tuning. even though the components/boards may be the same on 2 ecu doesn't mean the component run is the same and slight differences may be exhibited. i notice this more with idle between p28/p06 vs. p72/p30. i've seen first hand tuners that spend a whole session tuning on their \"tuning\" ecu to only learn this when they burn the chip and swap the owner's ecu back into the car. why waste the extra time?

Because I never seen any differences in AF between my tuning ECU and others? Some customers has widebands in there car so it would be easy to see differences. Never noticed anything wrong.

With bigger injectors and MAP sensors, I ALWAYS see a difference. Sometimes not a lot, but I usually have to fine tune at least injector offset. That usually does the trick. I use my own ECU for the majority of the tuning process because I grew tired of all those annoying wires. So my tuning ECU has a built in wideband controller, and Ostrich + USB hub strapped on top. This setup has proven to be very reliable and saves me tons of time. /Allan

hmmm are you sure it's not just the fact is running of a chip and not an emulator? Show us some proof, use the same tuning ecu but put a chip in and then look at AFR to see if its the same. Also it's hard to notice because IAT temps changing the AFR no?

Thanks guys for the replies. That issue happened with the same chip/rom in 2 different ecu's (p30-g00 and p30-g01). So far the only difference i've nottest is the CEL \"behaviour\" as it takes a little bit longer to turn on. I've talked with a friend that is also using an p30-g00 and he also has that delay with the CEL turning ON, so that must be normal i hope ;)

So no afr changes, thats the important thing. CEL delay i have experienced with a 900 and 901 P30 also when using the SSt512 chip, didn't do it with romulator. Fast CEL

I have heard of using the ostrich/vs chips sometimes required a last adjustment if an AFR reading was done after the chip install... this was with CROME. for another note: taking the internal CPU program out, and putting it in my ostrich made me leaner. I have no clue why. This was with a P08 ECU.

I would assume your asking them? heh. Once I have a solid tune, to aide in this, I will try different ECU's and make logs to see if ARS's/readings are changed.
