Timing issues P30 code

Post by Gaskleppie »

Everybody knows the timing issues in the P30 code. Cr*m* is suffering a lot from that. John did some tests a few days ago:
I tuned a car last week and tried to see if I can add more power by changing the distributor timing. This is an NA GSR with minor mods. Increasing the timing to 6* on the distributor and subtracting 6* in Crome to compensate produced somewhat similar power band except above 6K rpm. The power just dropped off drastically. Placing the distributor timing back to it's original position and undoing the changes in Crome brought the power back. Then I retarded by 2* on the distributor and made the complementary changes on Crome and the powerband had no change including top end power.
Funny thing is that I did the same test a few weeks ago with my stock B16a2. I also turned the dizzy 6* and put 6* less on the maps. In my case I used eCtune instead of Cr*m*. The results were remarkable! The power was spot on on both runs! I think we can say that eCtune is free of this timing issue!
