Alternator ctrl and ELD can someone explain?
Can someone please explain to me what exactly the Alternator control do? From what I know, ELD simply monitors available battery voltage and when it drops to a specified voltage when a load is turned on the ECU commands the alternator to increase output by applying more voltage to its windings or increase engine RPM. Is that correct still have no clue what Alternator control is?
I would like some further clarification on this also. I just put in a new NAPA alternator 2 months ago and a week or so ago, it decided to throw 19v through my system. I datalogged this at the time and watched as it blew both of my head lights. I have ELD disabled and alternator controll off. I am using the data log to get the company to buy me new headlights but it would be advantageous for me to explain that it was not the ECU's fault for this occurence. They tested the alternator at NAPA and told me that it tested fine. I told them that the problem was intermitent and that I could prove that it was overcharging through a log file. He looked at me crazy and just gave me a new alternator lol.

if you use alternator control while the car idling it controls the voltage charge output but not if you don't use this option it is works like mechanical system without any control over it. While idling the dim of the light and other sources will be better... I could be wrong, this is all that I know about that.
